Show notes are the page a listener lands on after they hear the episode, and the page you paste into your host. They are not a second essay. A useful page has a short summary, timestamps, the names and tools you mentioned, and a way to find the clips.
What belongs in the notes
- One paragraph that says what the episode decided, not a recap of every tangent.
- Chapter timestamps that match the player. The first stamp is 0:00.
- Takeaways a person could act on this week.
- Links and gear you actually named.
What to cut
Long transcripts dumped under the player look thorough and get skipped. So do five paragraphs of 'in this episode we discuss' that never say the point. If a sentence could introduce any episode of your show, delete it.
A generator helps when it reads the transcript and returns those pieces in a fixed shape. PodCrate does that as one crate: notes, chapters, five titles, captioned clips, and SRT files. You still read it before you publish. The draft should be close enough that reading it is the edit.
A simple workflow
Record. Upload the file or paste the RSS enclosure the same day. Copy the notes into your host. Paste the chapter block into YouTube if you also publish video. Schedule the clips. Then stop. The show does not need a content department. It needs a crate.
